What is a 'red day'?
In Sweden a public holiday is called a red day, because it is printed in red in the calendar, just like Sundays. Sweden has 13 public holidays each year, and some of them always fall on a Saturday or Sunday.
Why does Easter move every year?
Easter Sunday is the first Sunday after the first full moon after the spring equinox, so it can fall between 22 March and 25 April. Ascension Day (39 days after Easter) and Whitsun (49 days after Easter) move with it.
What is a bridge day?
A bridge day (klämdag) is a working day squeezed between a holiday and a weekend, such as the Friday after Ascension Day. Many people take it off to get a long weekend.
Which countries are included?
The calendar shows holidays for more than 100 countries. Choose a country and year above to see all holidays, the next upcoming holiday and a year calendar with every holiday marked.
What does regional holiday mean?
