About the summer break

About ten weeks

The summer break starts when the spring term ends, usually on a Friday in mid-June just before Midsummer. It lasts until the autumn term starts in mid or late August. Swedish rules say the school year must have at least 178 school days, and the rest of the year is spread over the breaks.

The dates differ slightly

Municipalities usually differ by only a few days. Some northern municipalities start the autumn term a little earlier. The exact dates are in each municipality's school calendar, which you reach from the municipality pages below.

After-school care and summer school

After-school care is open for part of the summer but often closes for a few weeks in July. Many municipalities also run a summer school (lovskola) for pupils who need extra support before the next school year.
